WINE, COWS, BABIES, EVERYTHING!
(or LIFE IS A JUGGLING ACT, LITERALLY!)

For the average opera devotee, theatre-goer or chardonnay quaffing intellectual, balancing work commitments, raising happy children and juggling wine bottles is hard enough.
But for Jo Clifford and Garth Doolan, of Sheer Drop Wines, life is one contortionist trick after another. And sometimes a backwards somersault with pike and half twist.
The Sheer Drop vineyards are located just 12km from the vibrant, creative community of Castlemaine in Central Victoria, home to many renowned visual and performing artists.
Jo and Garth have resisted the temptation to emulate established wine houses by showcasing the dramatic work of painter Katharina Rapp on their Sheer Drop labels.
So how does a couple with four young children stay sane while juggling 250 head of Angus beef cattle, 120 hectares of grapes and 100,000 litres of premium, cool-climate wine? In a town such as Castlemaine, the answer is obvious: you just create your own circus troupe!
Patrons of fine food and wine voiced their approval of the Sheer Drop approach by awarding Sheer Drop Wines the People’s Choice Award for excellence in stand display, product quality and service delivery for two years running at the Harvest Picnic at Hanging Rock and Spring Picnic at Werribee Park.
Sheer Drop wines are grown and crafted on the granite soils of Mt Alexander. The vineyards are situated on elevated slopes with magnificent views to Mt Macedon, Mt Tarrengower and Mt Franklin. Grape varieties planted include Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling and Pinot Grigio.
Private tastings and functions in our spectacular vineyard can be arranged by appointment.
